Fountain restoration

What is lovingly called The Animal Fountain, a component of the historic Saint Philip’s campus, is being restored just in time for this year’s Blessing of the Animals on Saturday, October 8.

The Preservation and Endowment board approved funding for the project at its September meeting, and work on the fountain commenced almost immediately.

While the Animal Fountain may be considered a bit of an artifact these days, it had a practical purpose at its creation. In the time of the church’s construction this area was mostly open ranch land. People could ride their horses or burros here, accompanied by dogs, and the three-level fountain provided life-giving water to these four-legged members of God’s creation.
