A perfect storm

Do you know the term “perfect storm?” It’s used to describe what happens when events that rarely happen at the same time do, in fact, occur at the same time.

The diocesan magazine, AZ Episcopalian, recently published a chart that illustrated the dollar amounts donated by every congregation for mission work. The donation amount that appeared after Saint Philip’s In the Hills Church was an entire row of zeroes.

This accurate—but misleading—information was because of a “perfect storm.”

Event #1: There was a transition in Saint Philip’s accounting department.

Event #2: Saint Philip’s contribution check was mailed while the AZ Episcopalian was being produced.

Perfect Storm: Staff transition and ongoing deadlines coincided to create the accurate—but misleading—row of zeroes on the chart.

The good news is that Saint Philip’s payments are current and the diocese’s finance office has confirmed that, this year to date, the parish has donated more than $74,000.00.
