Civil discourse

Vestry members Barbara Cone and David Hass are reviewing methods for Saint Philip’s parishioners to have productive discussions about divisive political issues in the United States.

The goal is to offer training in—and practice with—engaging people who hold opposing views. The hope is that the training and practice will enhance everyone’s abilities to have meaningful conversation and to repair the tears in the fabric of public discourse.

Divisive issues that will be addressed include, but are not limited to, gun violence, women’s bodily autonomy, women’s healthcare and reproductive rights, immigration and border issues, voting rights, the role of the police, and a multitude of social justice issues. All of these topics have significant faith-based implications for how to live out discipleship and witness to others.

Mtr Mary is in the process of creating a link to resources developed by various secular and non-secular sources, including the Episcopal Church. Stay tuned for details about that in next week’s Bell & Tower.
