History project

Saint Philip’s has a rich history, and a project is under way to create a video that will memorialize it. The video will serve as an educational tool, be a useful introduction to the parish for newcomers, and motivate continued preservation for the future. Think: Ken Burns on a shoestring budget.

Saint Philip’s former rector, Fr John Kitagawa, started an archive which is now curated by Cecilia Hunter, a long-time parishioner and professional archivist. Much material for the video has already been gathered from the church’s annals and other sources: books that were written for the parish’s 50th and 75th anniversaries, Tucson newspapers and magazines, the University of Arizona Special collections, and reference material on Tucson history and architecture.

If you have material that might be of special interest to the project, please be in touch within the next week or two with parishioner Ken Hinkle. He can be emailed at kennethhhinkle@gmail.com. He is also typically in the church or sacristy on Sundays between the 9:00am and 11:15am worship services.

Saint Philip’s archive is always looking for photographs, invitations, announcements, church literature, memorabilia—especially anything pre-1970. If you have something to contribute please email Cecilia Hunter at hunter.cecilia@yahoo.com. She can scan your materials for the church’s use and return the originals to you.

Thank you!
