Book club

In 1991 Saint Philip’s parishioners Maryl Barnes and Wayne Fulton (deceased) founded Literati, a book discussion group. 32 years later, the group is still active. People come and go; new friends are made, old friendships strengthened, and one woman met her husband in the group.

The group meets at 7:30pm in the Bride’s room on the 2nd Monday of every month from September through May.

The books are proposed by members and then voted on by the group every spring.

The upcoming program year’s books will be:

September 9: Portrait of a Lady by Henry James
October 14: Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz
November 11: How to Hide an Empire—a History of the Greater United States by Daniel Immerwahr
December 9: Absalom! Absalom! by William Faulkner
January 13: Forget the Alamo, by Bryan Burrough, Chris Tomlinson, and Jason Stanford
February 10: The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride
March 10: Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell
April 14: Act of Oblivion by Robert Harris
May 12: My Cousin Rachel by Daphne Du Maurier
