Book club

In 1991 Saint Philip’s parishioners Maryl Barnes and Wayne Fulton (since deceased) founded Literati, a book discussion group. 31 years later, the group is still active. People come and go; new friends are made, old friendships strengthened, and one woman met her current husband.

The group meets at 7:30pm on the 2nd Monday of every month from September through May. (Currently, meetings are held via Zoom.) The books are proposed by members and then voted on by the group every spring.

Books read recently are:

September: Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand
October: The Crossing Place by Elly Griffiths
November: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
December: Julian of Norwich by Matthew Fox
January: Inland by Tea Obrecht

Upcoming books are:

February: Becoming by Michele Obama
March: When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi
April: The Woman in the Window by A. J. Flynn
May: Land by Simon Winchester
