Drivers needed

The refugee family that Saint Philip’s helps sponsor—both with funding and volunteer assistance—continues to settle in to life in Tucson. A reminder that the family consists of a father (Aladdin), mother (Javin), their 13 year old son (Ahmed), 12 year old daughter (Leyla), and 8 year old daughter (Rojhat). There is an older daughter who remained in Kurdistan; she is married with a baby.

Aladdin still works at the job he found through contacts in the Kurdish community. He commutes with a neighbor who lives in the same apartment complex and with volunteers from Saint Philip’s who generously offer to drive him. Volunteers can be flexible with when they pick up Aladdin from work, and this makes it possible for Aladdin to work longer hours than when he rides with his neighbor.

Having a volunteer drive him home makes a huge difference to Aladdin. If you would like to join other volunteers and help with a driving shift, then please contact Dcn Leah Sandwell-Weiss at lsandwellweiss@gmail.com. (Know that there is some paperwork involved and LSS-SW requires that drivers be 69 years or younger.) Thank you!
