Information session

At 10:00am on Saturday, February 4, Saint Philip’s will offer an information session for everyone interested in becoming a Stephen Minister—or just learning more about this listening ministry. The session will be led by Dcn Anne Strong and Bill Symonds, trained Stephen Ministry leaders, and held in the Children’s Chapel (at the north end of the campus)

The training program is scheduled to begin in March. It teaches volunteers how to support people going through serious life crises, such as the death of a spouse or child, grave illness, loss of a job, or other such challenges. The training provides opportunities to practice particular skills and, upon completion, volunteers are commissioned and can begin serving the community. Dcn Anne and Bill will be commissioned by Bishop Reddall at the 11:15am service on January 29.

Stephen Ministers provide support with complete confidentiality, and the volunteers meet regularly to sustain each other.

Stephen Ministry is a well-established Christian listening ministry that has trained thousands of lay people to meet with individuals confidentially, and to really hear them. More than 10,000 churches—from over 100 denominations (including Episcopal parishes)—are involved.
