A musical weekend

Tomorrow, Saturday, November 5, Saint Philip’s Saint Nicholas (Youth) Choir will sing at the Procession of Little Angels, a family-friendly event that is part of Tucson’s annual All Souls’ Procession. (See related article.)

On Sunday, November 6, at the 9:00am and 11:15am services, Saint Philip’s will celebrate All Souls’ Sunday with an exciting First Sunday Music project: Franz Schubert’s Mass in G Major. This beloved setting will be sung by the adult choristers and youth apprentices with a sizable orchestra. We will perform a celebratory version of this mass with two trumpet and timpani parts added by the composer. This project has been generously supported by the Kautz Memorial Fund.

In addition to this mass, and in celebration of Ingathering Sunday, the choir and orchestra will lead the congregation in singing Ralph Vaughan William’s beloved Old Hundreth Psalm Tune. The choir will also present beautifully contrasting motets by Ēriks Ešenvalds and John Tavener.

Don’t miss this exciting weekend of music-making with Saint Philip’s choirs at the choral services and at Armory Park.
