Meet your representatives

The Diocese of Arizona will hold its 63rd annual convention on Saturday, October 21 at Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church, Scottsdale, AZ. A detailed schedule of events is available by clicking here.

Five delegates and the parish’s Senior and Junior Wardens* will represent Saint Philip’s at Convention.

The delegate’s role is to provide a link between the congregation and the diocese and report to the congregation about events, actions, and decisions that occur at convention.

Delegates have voting rights at convention. In order to serve as a delegate, the person must be a confirmed communicant in good standing and be at least 16 years old.

A lay delegate is typically someone with intimate knowledge about the congregation. Alternate delegates are available in case one of the delegates is unable to attend.

All seven representatives serve Saint Philip’s in various roles.

Matti Bowen supports Saint Philip’s liturgical needs as a lector, acolyte, and subdeacon; she is a co-leader for Junior Youth Formation (7th and 8th graders); she knits with the ladies from the Prayer Shawl Ministry; and, serves on the Board of Beloved in the Desert, Episcopal Service Corps program.

Paulette Bremond has been a parishioner since 1969 and served in a multitude of roles: Sunday school teacher, Altar Guild member, Rector’s secretary, and most recently as a member of the Columbarium Committee.

John Bremond* is Saint Philip’s Senior Warden and will represent the parish in that role—not as a delegate. He was baptized, confirmed, and married at Saint Philip’s. He’s been a Vestry member four times and has served as Senior Warden three times. He was also intimately involved in the parish’s two capital campaigns which expanded the church and built the current set of offices.

David Hass is a former Vestry member and on the Preservation & Endowment Board.

Jordan Paul is the lead formation leader for Senior Youth Formation (9th-12th graders) and serves as an acolyte and subdeacon. He is also involved with Saint Philip’s feeding ministry, serves on the Board of Beloved in the Desert, Episcopal Service Corps program, and writes a monthly reflection for Daily Bread.

Bill Symonds is a leader in Saint Philip’s Stephen Ministry, serves as a lector, and is one of three facilitators of the recently formed Men’s Group (that meets at 8:00am every Friday in La Parroquia). He has been involved in the Episcopal Church/Anglican Communion for 50 years.

Bonnie Winn* is Saint Philip’s Junior Warden and will represent the parish in that role—not as a delegate. She serves as Stewardship Chair, a Music Librarian, a chorister, and a key leader on the UK Residency/Pilgrimage Committee.
