Vestry update

The Vestry is a group of elected volunteers that serves as the parish’s functional Board of Directors. Vestry members, who serve in three groups for three-year terms, provide leadership and oversight of the mission and ministry of the congregation, and manage the church buildings and property, finances, and personnel. Photos of current Vestry members can be found on Saint Philip’s website by clicking here.

Saint Philip’s Vestry gathers for a hybrid meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Below are highlights from the meeting (prepared by Barbara Cone and Bonnie Winn) that took place on Wednesday, February 15.

Present:  Michael Anderson, John Bremond, Herb Burton, Barbara Cone, David Hass, Erika Johnson, Meredith Mullins, Roger Rainbolt, Tamzin Sugiyama, Bonnie Winn, Liz Wood, Fr Robert Hendrickson, and Mtr Mary Trainor

Guests:  Bill Kuhlman, Mo Owen, Kristin Tovar, and John Waszczak

John Bremond opened the meeting with a prayer and welcomed Vestry candidates Bill Kuhlman, Mo Owen, and Kristin Tovar.

Senior Warden’s Report: John Bremond reviewed Saint Philip’s strategic plan; a motion was made to approve the strategic plan as presented and it was passed. Hiring a Facilities Manager was discussed, as was the Reserve Study process and how that will help determine costs, priorities, and schedules for Buildings & Grounds’ projects. John also gave an update on the Masterplan.

Rector’s Report: Fr Robert acknowledged and thanked outgoing Vestry members David Hass and Liz Woods for their service. Plans for the Annual Meeting were discussed.

Treasurer’s Report:  Herb Burton reported that the financial year 2022 ended with a deficit of $144,000 due to unexpected pandemic closings and re-opening expenses. On the positive side, Catalina Hills Preschool and Kindergarten is on track to pay full rent by 2024, and the 2023 church budget has been carefully refined by Mtr Mary and the Finance Committee.

Stewardship: Bonnie Winn reported that she mailed 253 letters to households that have “parishioner” status on Breeze but have not been active or contributed to the church in the past several years. The mailing included a return response postcard to gather information on whether to maintain “parishioner” status or to archive them.

Parochial Report: Mtr Mary presented the annual Parochial Report to Vestry.  A motion was passed to accept the Parochial Report as presented.

John gave a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.
