Jim & Gretchen McGill

Jim and Gretchen lived in Phoenix for 30 years before returning to Tucson in March.

What brought you to Saint Philip’s?
We knew Saint Philip’s from when we attended the University of Arizona and attended weddings at the church. But what appeals to us as adults is the church’s emphasis on social justice.

You retired during the pandemic. What did you do professionally before you retired?
We are both Certified Professional Accountants.

Jim—I spent much of my career working for Arizona PublicService, and the last ten years I worked for the country’s largest nuclear power plant (just west of Phoenix).

Gretchen—I stayed at home with our three children and worked in different finance and accounting jobs while also being a professional volunteer with my children’s schools and extra-curricular interests.

What are some fun facts about you?
We met while working as a hostess and bus boy at Caruso’s restaurant on 4th Avenue.

Jim—Long ago, I taught sailors how to drive submarines… even though I have never been on a submarine.

Gretchen—My undergraduate degree is in Fine Arts but my MBA is in Accounting.
