Year in review

Through the pandemic in 2020 and into 2021, Saint Philip’s Feeding Ministries Working Group made a difference at the church, in the Tucson community, and beyond.

The ministry organized contribution drives that benefited multiple non-profits:

  • Casa Alitas

  • Casa Maria

  • Garwood Elementary School, Phoenix (in partnership with the Arizona chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians)

  • Imago Dei School

  • Interfaith Community Services

  • Primavera

  • Rio Vista School

  • Sister José Women’s Shelter

  • St Christopher’s Episcopal Mission, Navajoland/Bluff, UT (in partnership with the Mar Thomas Church, Phoenix, and the AZ chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians)

  • St James Methodist Church food pantry

  • St Philip’s food pantry

With the help of Mtr Taylor and parishioner Landon Swanson, volunteers applied for and received grants from the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona and the Episcopal Church’s United Thank Offering. They also obtained commercial certification for Saint Philip’s kitchen.

The Feeding Ministry continues its partnership with the YWCA of Southern Arizona. This collaboration will make Saint Philip’s commercial kitchen available for the YWCA’s pilot program for aspiring micro-food entrepreneurs.

And last, but by no means least…a huge “thank you!” to the many people of St Philip’s who supported all these efforts.
