Campus Ministry

The Episcopal Campus Ministry (ECM) is an important component of the formation for Beloved in the Desert Corps Members. Every Sunday evening, just before sunset, students from the University of Arizona gather to worship outside on the grass along with the Beloved corps members.

As part of their formation, Beloved corps members help develop liturgies and preach (as current corps member, Chris Campbell, did this past Sunday). After preaching, there is generally a lively discussion on the Epistle or Gospel. Of course, there is hymn singing and camaraderie, as well.

After seven years of ministry, Fr Ben Garren is currently on sabbatical so BITD alumni Alex Swain, Luke Pearson, and Samantha Christopher are supporting the ministry until he returns close to Easter. This support includes ensuring worship materials are available and welcoming guest celebrants, such as Fr Nelson Mendoza, Curate at St Francis in the Valley, Green Valley, AZ (pictured below) to the worship space.

Blessings to all,

—Alex Swain, Assistant for Community Life—Beloved in the Desert Episcopal Service Corps
