BITD Commissioning

At its 10:00am service this Sunday, August 15, Saint Philip’s will welcome and commission the 2021-2022 cohort of Beloved in the Desert in readiness for their year of service, prayer, and community. The church encourages parishioners to attend and welcome them alongside a new member joining us in baptism, which you can read about HERE.

The four young adults have joined us from around the country to get to know and love Tucson and to be a part of the Episcopal community here. Please pray for Em, Maddie, Lake, and Claire as they settle into their year of service with our partner non-profits: the Boys and Girls Club of Tucson, the Episcopal Campus Ministry at the University of Arizona, Interfaith Community Services, Habitat for Humanity, and the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.

Periodically the Beloved members will provide some reflection about this year of intensive commitment to discipleship that we will share in the Bell and Tower.

Additionally, you are invited to support the work of these partner non-profits through projects on which the community members are working. Look out for news of a Beloved Build with Habitat for Humanity, a Food Drive with Interfaith Community Services, and more throughout the year. If you would like to get to know the Beloveds personally please look for them at Mosaic(when the Wednesday night program resumes) and other community events.

As Saint Philip’s enter the third year of this ministry in some ways we transition from a new program to an established part of the Episcopal Service Corps. Our engagement with this network lives out a significant commitment to the ministry with and of young adults. This work also invites those of us longtimers in Tucson and at Saint Philip’s into renewed commitment to our neighbors, living out our discipleship in patterns of service, prayer, and community alongside these young people who have committed to this work so fully for 10.5 months.

By praying for and with the community, working alongside them to support the missions of the front-line non-profits which they serve, and giving to support their work you enable this important ministry to thrive. Thank you for your support! If you have any questions about Beloved in the Desert please be in touch with Mtr Taylor, or a member of the Beloved in the Desert Advisory Board: Chuck Kirchner, Liz Wood, Erika Johnson, Carol Jones, Eileen and Don Veitch, Beth Brouillette, Alex Swain, and Jeanette Renouf, who are committed to fostering the work of Beloved in the Desert as an intentional community for young adults that supports beloved Christian disciples through service, study, and prayer in the Tucson borderlands.
