Ben Day awardees

Each spring Saint Philip’s awards the Ben Day Scholarship to a graduating high school senior of the parish, proudly conferred for years of faithful and selfless service to the glory of God and the church in the ministry of acolytes.

The scholarship is named in memory of longtime parishioner Ben Day who shepherded the guild of acolytes for decades. He passed away suddenly in 2004, and Saint Philip’s established the scholarship in honor of his enduring legacy and to support the aspirations of our young adult acolytes as they discern God’s leading. The scholarship awards $1,000.00 to each recipient.

This year we joyfully award the Ben Day Scholarship to Caroline and Libby Axen!

Both Caroline and Libby Axen are graduating with honors from Catalina Foothills High School, each with a weighted GPA over a 4.0. They have excelled in high school, are members of National Charity League and National Honor Society.

Libby is a member of Link Crew and Caroline is part of the Student Council. Libby has earned the Seal of Biliteracy and Caroline has earned the Seal of the Arts. Both played on their Varsity golf team throughout high school.

Libby will attend Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona, on a golf scholarship, where she will also study Forensic Accounting.

Caroline will attend the University of Arizona Honors College, where she will earn her business degree before she attends pastry school to further her passion of baking. Caroline has already been selected as an Eller Elite Freshman.

We offer prayers for the grace of God to guard, cherish, and protect them in the years ahead.

Almighty God, in whom and through whom and to whom are all things: Mercifully direct your beloved servants Caroline and Libby with your unceasing love and shepherd them into all those good works that you have prepared for them to walk in; that they may be always rooted and built up in you and made living flames to illumine the world with your abiding presence; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
