Recovery Sunday Coffee Hour

Each year Saint Philip's devotes a particular Sunday as “Recovery Sunday,” an annual occasion to better understand as a community what the impact of substance abuse is and to offer prayers with special intentions for the victims of alcoholism, addictions, and for those recovering.

Even beyond Saint Philip’s, this is a Churchwide interest of the Episcopal community. The Recovery Ministry of The Episcopal Church was founded in 1979 with with a mission to counter the tragedies of addictions and their impact on individuals, families, and society.

This year, Saint Philip’s Recovery Sunday will be on April 18. The Recovery Ministry and Saint Philip’s Health Cabinet will co-host a special online coffee hour forum at 11:15 am: “The Negative Effects of Pandemic on Disease and Deaths Related to Addictions," with guest presenter Dr Donnie Sansom. A native Arizonan and graduate of Northern Arizona University, Dr Sansom obtained his medical education at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed residency in anesthesiology at the University of Cincinnati. After working as an anesthesiologist for 20 years, his interest turned to substance use disorders.
