Easter Recovery Mass

Saint Philip's Recovery Ministry will offer its monthly Recovery Mass (the first Sunday of every month) via Zoom at 5:30 p.m. this Sunday, April 4, with special prayers and intentions for all those affected by addiction.

The liturgy is influenced by the 12 steps of recovery and is intended for all people, whether or not one is in recovery. In the spirit of Alcoholics Anonymous and all recovery groups, we enter this space holding each other in love and in full assurance of confidentiality.

All are welcome. For more information, please contact Fr. Peter Helman, Parochial Vicar (peter.helman@stphilipstucson.org).

The Saint Philip's Recovery Ministry is available for anyone who might have questions or who is looking for assistance with their struggles.

To register, please follow the Zoom link here.

Following are some questions to answer for yourself or on behalf of someone you know. This assessment should not be considered a final diagnosis but it can be a first step in determining whether your drinking habits (or a friend’s) are cause for concern.

1. Has your drinking or drug use caused problems with your primary responsibilities (work, school, caring for your children)?

2. Has your drinking or drug use caused relationship problems with those close to you?

3. Has your drinking or drug use caused legal difficulties?

4. Has your drinking or drug use caused a change in friends? Do you have feelings of loneliness or isolation?

5. Has your drinking or drug use caused you to suffer illness? (paranoia, anxiety, depression, nausea) or inappropriate use of anger?

6. Have you ever tried to stop using alcohol or addictive drugs, including Rx, but can’t? Do you find it difficult to have a good time without using alcohol or a substance?

7. Has anyone close to you expressed concern about your alcohol or drug use?

Answering yes to any one of these questions may indicate you have a problem. Answering yes to two or more questions confirms alcoholic or addiction tendencies.

What to do? Stop drinking or drugging just for today and call someone. There is a comprehensive list of local phone numbers and webpage links from the Recovery Ministry of the Episcopal Church. We do not consult but we are happy to answer questions and provide additional information. Need to make that first meeting but apprehensive about walking through that door alone? You are welcome to call and we would be happy to help find a friend of Saint Philip’s to attend that first meeting with you.

“The Promises” for those in recovery:

“We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. We will comprehend the word ‘serenity’ and we will know peace. The feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and economic insecurity will leave us.

We will intuitively know how to handle situations that previously baffled us. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves." (The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous)
