Monthly Vestry update

The Vestry is a group of elected volunteers that serves as the parish’s functional Board of Directors. Vestry members, who serve in three groups for three-year terms, provide leadership and oversight of the mission and ministry of the congregation, and manage the church buildings and property, finances, and personnel. Photos of current Vestry members can be found on Saint Philip’s website by clicking here.

Saint Philip’s Vestry gathers for a hybrid meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. What follows is a summary of the May 18 meeting.

Present: Michael Anderson, Herb Burton, Barbara Cone, David Hass, Meghan Hodge, Erika Johnson, Roger Rainbolt, Meredith Mullins, Alex Swain, Bonnie Winn, Liz Wood, Fr Robert Hendrickson, and Mtr Mary Trainor.

Absent: John Bremond

Bonnie Winn called the meeting to order. David Hass gave the opening prayer.

Bonnie Winn gave an update on the 2023 Stewardship Campaign planning.

In response to a number of divisive issues in the country today, Barbara Cone led a discussion about how people of faith can learn to discuss these subjects with people who hold different points of view. After good conversation, Barbara Cone, David Hass, and Mtr Mary Trainor volunteered to research options for facilitated discussion training.

In the Rector’s report, Fr Robert discussed plans for focus groups to discuss masterplan development issues and how they relate to strategic planning for church mission.

Mtr Mary presented the summer schedule for worship services and office hours.  It was decided that for now, masking protocols being followed at the 9:00am service will continue as the masking protocols for the 10:00am summer service.

Construction of the new driveway entrance to the church’s north parking lot will happen soon. Appropriate signage was recommended.

Herb Burton gave the financial report. Herb recommended that an audit sub-committee be formed and asked for at least one Vestry member to volunteer to lead the committee.  There was also discussion to include a staff development fund in the annual operating budget.

Following an executive session, the motion to approve some staff salary increases was approved.

The meeting was adjourned. David Hass gave the closing prayer.
