Choral Evensong

On the third Sunday of every month, Saint Philip’s offers Choral Evensong. Join us on Sunday, January 16, for an organ prelude that will begin at 4:15pm, followed by Choral Evensong at 4:30pm.

Evensong this Sunday will feature the Adult Schola Cantorum choir singing evening canticles by Herbert Sumsion, and an arrangement of the Epiphany hymn “Come, thou Redeemer of the earth” for lower voices.

This wonderful, ancient liturgy takes the form of sung prayers, psalms, and the traditional evening canticles, the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis, along with a hymn and an anthem. The service is full of meditative moments, as well as the time-honored chanting of the appointed psalms for the day. It is the perfect way to begin or end a week.

Saint Philip’s is the only choir in Southern Arizona that continues and affirms this Anglican tradition. Help us spread the word, and consider bringing a friend to church.
