'Doctrines we love to hate’

As one Thursday formation series is set to end November 5, another is ready start on November 12.

Julia Annas’ “Ten Commandments” series will conclude with next week’s session.

Then, get set for the next series, on Christian theology, titled "Doctrines we love to hate," with the following dates: November 12, 19, December 3, 10. We'll take the Thursday of Thanksgiving week off.

As Christian theology has developed over the past two thousand years, various ideas have risen and declined in popularity. Since Christian theology touches on profound questions like the nature of human beings, how God relates to creation, and what God’s ultimate plan of salvation will hold for us, doctrine can be a source of great tension. Some may wonder why doctrine even matters at all.

For four weeks, Mtr. Kelli Joyce will lead us in a study of four key Christian doctrines with which Episcopalians and other contemporary Christians often struggle. We may find them difficult to understand, or wonder if they’re really important, or fear they’ve been too badly misused by other Christians--we may even love to hate them. Together we will talk about the value of four doctrines: original sin, atonement/the cross, miracle stories, and the judgment at the end of the world. Bring your questions and an open mind!
