Local elections: Zoom in Sunday

Just a reminder of the PCI accountability Zoom session at 3:00pm this Sunday. This non-partisan event is one of the most important ways PCI educates people about important social justice issues that affect our community and gives political candidates from both parties the opportunity to weigh in on the issues.

This year we are focusing on all the County Supervisor races and the Sheriff's race. All of the supervisor seats are up for grabs and there are competitive races this election cycle. We have been meeting with the various candidates and have invited all the candidates from both parties to participate in this year's session. An attached flier has the information on those who have confirmed.

We may not often think of the County Board of Supervisors as critical to our well-being, but it's a little different in this time of COVID-19.

The County is the primary entity to help us address the health and economic impacts that have resulted from the pandemic. This includes responsibility for public health (testing, tracing, vaccine distribution), workforce development to address unemployment, and issues related to safe housing (e.g., rental and mortgage assistance).

Large counties like ours were direct recipients of federal COVID relief funding and it is the supervisors who make the decisions about how to spend that money to protect our most vulnerable families. If you live in District 1, there is a competitive race to replace Ally Miller this year. It appears at this time that the Republican candidate will not participate in this event.

It's important to have a large turnout for this Zoom event so we encourage all of you to register and to pass along this information on the event to others in your congregations and in your networks. Please come and bring friends!  To join us, you need to register Here. You will receive login information after you register.
