Choir Recordings

Many of you are aware that the Saint Philip’s choirs have been producing anthems every week to include in our Sunday services. Since the beginning of September, our choristers, including the Saint Nicholas youths, experience a cycle of rehearsal, practice, and recording.

The final steps are a major element in our choristers’ weekly activity. They have to find time to practice their parts individually, get to know the guide track, practice singing with the guide, find some silence in their space (not easy at my house!), plug into their computer’s audio, and lay down their own track.

Just last week, our Saint Nicholas and Schola choristers recorded Edward Elgar’s Ave verum corpus, and I was particularly pleased at how beautifully they sang it — despite having no visual guidance from a conductor. If you listen to the end of the audio, you will “hear” what I mean! This was a lovely “real life” moment that makes me laugh whenever I hear it.
