Advent Silent Retreat: The Advent of Jesus through the Eyes of the Shepherds and Wise Men

  • St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church 4440 North Campbell Avenue at River Road Tucson United States (map)

Delve deeper into the season of Advent by taking a fresh look at the birth of Jesus through the eyes of the shepherds and wise men. Using guided storytelling, reflection questions, art and music, we will seek to gain new perspectives on the familiar events which surrounded Jesus’s arrival into the world. A simple lunch will be provided.

Retreat Leader: Shirin McArthur is a lay minister who holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Boston University School of Theology and a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Shalem Institute in Washington, DC. Shirin has been leading retreats for over 25 years and also works as a spiritual director, editor, and writer. Learn more about her at www.shirinmcarthur.com.

Speaking of Shirin’s Advent Silent Retreat last year, one of Saint Philip’s parishioners wrote, “Your retreat at Saint Philip’s was the most meaningful of my life. Your ‘fleshing out’ of the birth story made me hear it in a different way and I have been thinking of it ever since—as a new story, not the one I have heard over and over and is now background noise. Thank you so much.”

Retreatants are asked to contribute $25, if possible, to help offset the cost of this retreat. Payment may be made on the day of the retreat.
