Hymn Festival

What’s your favorite hymn? Do you love singing hymns of praise with others in church? Come and enjoy a fun afternoon with your friends on Sunday, March 11th, at 3:00pm. Elena Galbraith, our Master of Ceremonies, will introduce many favorite hymns, chosen by you, adding tidbits of information about composers and historical references. Schola Cantorum and Saint Nicholas Youth will sing anthems under the direction of Justin Appel. Jeffrey Campbell will play organ accompaniment and solos with great virtuosity. And you will join in four-part harmony often embellished with special descants.

Justin and Jeffrey have selected 30 hymns from the 1982 Hymnal as a starting point for selecting the top ten hymns to sing. You can pick up the list and buy voting points on Sundays at the Saint Nicholas Youth/UK Residency table in the Fishpond Garden. To be assured that your favorite hymn will be sung, you can pre-purchase that hymn with a larger donation. Don’t see you favorite on the list? Write it in! When the votes are tallied, our Master of Ceremonies will start the countdown to the winner.

The Hymn Festival is a benefit for the July 2019 UK Residency. Schola Cantorum adults and Saint Nicholas Youth have the honor to be invited to lead services at Ely Cathedral in England. Your donation supports sending our Saint Nicholas youth to sing daily Evensong and Sunday Eucharist services for the week July 15th–21st, 2019.

An Ice Cream Social in the Gallery will conclude the hour of joyful singing. Tickets are $20/person – on sale in the Fishpond Garden beginning February 11th.
