Saint Philip's welcomes author and Episcopal priest, the Rev'd Jerry Anderson, to host a special presentation and signing of his new book "Ordained by Angels: A Memoir of an AIDS Chaplain." Join us for lunch and a public reading on Sunday, March 10th, 2019 at 12:30pm in the Music Center.
"Ordained by Angels" reflects upon Father Anderson's small-town roots, beginning in Southern Illinois as the son of a Pentecostal preacher who was, by day, a coal miner. It examines how these roots influenced him to build two ministries in the Episcopal Church that served people living with AIDS and their care-givers. He looks back at how the AIDS epidemic and his personal struggle to be accepted as a gay priest shaped his vocation. He shares of his fight to hold faith in a loving God, to maintain sanity in the face of so many friends and loved ones dying, and to negotiate the pushback he experienced within the Church.
