Hands-On Retablo Workshop

  • Saint Philip's in the Hills 440 North Campbell Avenue Tucson, AZ, 85719 United States (map)

For generations there have been many long standing traditions that have carried on from generation to generation in southern Colorado/ Northern New Mexico and Arizona. The Art of Retablo making has been one that has survived and is thriving within our community. A retablo is a painting on a wood board made from natural gesso and hand made natural pigments of Catholic Saints and historical Biblical events. The creators of Retablos are called Santeros or Santeras. This workshop will give you an in-depth look into the centuries old process of creating retablos and give you chance to make one of your own. This workshop is designed for beginners and professionals alike. Please join Santera Virginia Maria Romero as she guides a step by step tutorial in creating your own retablo.

Class will be held at St. Philip's in the Foothills Church which is directly across the street from our Gallery. A Gallery tour with the Artist will finalize the experience.
